Parrot Fish Care

Parrot Fish care is not all ways an easy task and there is a lot that you will need to know before purchasing 1, including:

1. You will need to have the “perfect” aquarium. Ideally it should be 300 gallons or more with plenty of room for your fish to swim and forage. This aquarium should also have live rock and hard corals inside of it. You will also want to make sure that the aquarium is kept between 72 and 78ºF with a pH level between 8.1 and 8.4.

2. Eating is often difficult for parrotfish who are kept within aquariums because their diet consists of a lot of coral. In the oceans, these fish will usually eat the marine algae that they find in coral. While in your tank, feeding will be large part of your parrot fish care, you may be able to get them to eat Nori, shrimp, dried algae, dried seaweed and Kent herbivore pellets. Unfortunately, flake food is not going to work though because it has such a thin volume. Nevertheless, you are going to need to feed them several times each day with different foods because these fish are such rabid eaters.

3. If you happen to have a reef tank, then this is not the type of fish that you are going to want to place in your aquarium. As was mentioned above, these fish like to pick at the algae that is found within reefs and will thus damage your reef tank.

Otherwise, these fish will get along with almost any other fish because parrot fish are quite peaceful. If you have the time and energy to learn proper parrot fish care, then these will soon become your favorite fish in your aquarium thanks to its grand swimming style and very active personality.
